Artist Bio

Matt Wain was born and raised in the UK. After studying art he travelled extensively throughout Asia and lived in Sydney and London before settling in Pangbourne, Berkshire in the United Kingdom.

Wain's images are collected internationally; from one-off commissions by individuals to large projects with art consulting firms – for example 400 pieces for the CityCenter Fine Art Program in Las Vegas.

Awards have seen Wain's pieces exhibited in Paris and London and include recognition from Getty Images, the IPA Lucie Awards, the PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris awards and the The International Color Awards Masters Cup.

It's no accident that Matt Wain should have chosen a natural theme for his art. The 'Living' collection reflects his ethos for life. He is aware of his impact on the environment and counters this however he can.

Wain's 'Living' collection morphs as his odyssey continues.

Artist Statement

Matt Wain’s 'Living' collection explores the natural world. With images described as strikingly beautiful and emotional, Wain demonstrates a talent for visualization:

"I’m interested in capturing the essence of the subject. With the 'flora' and ''scapes' images this is the fine balance between a shot that is simply a record and one that is entirely abstract. It is essential for me to keep my art natural, working only with sunlight and entirely on location. I create the images in camera - constructing an image using a computer is the polar opposite of what I’m trying to achieve."

Wain's 'cows' are the obvious exception to this rule; mysterious, engaging, often amusing and sometimes dark they are compelling and addictive. However, his approach is the same whatever the subject. Wain explains:

"It's not at all unusual for me to shoot hundreds of images of one subject and not get one I'm happy with – then I'll leave it, consider it and return to it later."
